At 4:30am, we loaded out luggage on a bus and headed north towards the Botswana border. Today we have a long drive ahead of us - we want to reach the Khama Rhino Sanctuary before sunset. We said good bye to South Africa, and crossed the border into Botswana.
The Khama Rhino sanctuary in Botswana is very well run and protected with the help of the military -- this is the only way to protect rhinos from poachers in Africa today! We saw many white rhinos, but also for the first time I also saw a black rhino. They temporarily held a large black rhino male in a pen, so the ranger was feeding him grass, and I was able to pat this huge and frightening animal. Now how cool is that!
